Making a Wise Investment in Yourself

It can be hard to justify spending money on organizing when it feels like something you should be able to do on your own. We've talked about how it can take some help to get started, but with a little push in the right direction, inertia will work in your favor. That got me thinking about all the ways I've seen this investment repay itself for my clients. Sure, maybe it'll help you focus on your work and lead to a raise someday, or it might get your business generating more cashflow. But those are long-term results, and hard to appreciate today. Just for fun, let's take a look at a few immediate real-life examples of how I've helped clients save money while we worked together!

  • The most blatant one: finding money! Uncashed checks, gift cards, and gift certificates turn up more often than you think.
  • No more bill late fees or tickets for forgetting to put your tabs on your car!
  • Finding that valuable thing that you were going to replace. The charger for your smartwatch, (which has had a dead battery for months), precious jewelry, or your passport (to think you were going to have one expedited!).
  • You'll cut way back on your spending. You won't end up having three tubes of your favorite (aka expensive) mascara, or you'll find out you have the perfect shoes for an upcoming event, that you'd forgotten you owned!
  • You'll find that as you learn to part with stuff, you become more discriminating about purchases. You'll start to think more about whether you really LOVE that new purchase.
  • You'll put to work expensive items that had gotten buried and neglected. Fancy kitchen equipment (espresso makers, stand mixers), cardio machines, and electronics are high on this list. This is a major one in relieving some of that guilt, too!
  • Lost library books can be shockingly expensive. Finding them is priceless.
  • You can actually get money back from items you need to get rid of! We'll consign any expensive clothing that's in good condition, and resell your books and media.
  • Another big one that's overlooked (and sometimes wrought with shame) is finally getting around to returning an expensive purchase that didn't work out. One of my clients had bought three pricy dresses online for a special occasion, meaning to keep her favorite and return the other two, but never got around to that last part. That one return paid for our next two sessions together!
  • I'll help you with canceling the auto-payments that you've been meaning to deal with. Bonus points if it's for something like a magazine or a monthly subscription box, because you'll stop paying for it and you'll stop accruing more stuff! Win-win!
  • You'll finally get a handle on your finances. If this is an area where you're struggling, I can guide you through creating systems for tracking your spending that feel more like a game than a chore. You'll have more control over your cash flow than you ever imagined!
